FDA approves world's first birth control pill
After almost ten years of development, the FDA approves the world's first birth control pill. It will take 12 years and two Supreme Court cases, Griswold v. Connecticut and Eisenstadt v. Baird, before the pill becomes legally available to all women in the US. In 2018, the CDC will report that 'the pill' is the second most common contraceptive among US women.

Title IX bans gender discrimination in education
Signed into law by President Nixon, Title IX attempts to eradicate gender discrimination in the US education system. While most will come to associate it with increased athletic opportunities for women, it will also be applied in various DOJ and DOE policies related to transgendered students, as well as lawsuits concerning sexual harassment and sexual violence in schools.
comment: Interesting that these events both happened on June 23rd. The later happening in the same year as the pill being made legally available to all women in the US. 6 months and 29 days after title IX passes the supreme court voted 7 - 2 in favor of Roe vs Wade. ( January 22nd, 1973.)
